WENDY WILLIAMS Announces Hiatus Due To Graves’ Disease

Wendy Williams has announced that she is taking a break from her daytime talk show in order to recover from the effects of Graves’ disease.
On Wednesday (Feb. 21), the controversial host confirmed that she will be taking three weeks off from her daily weekday program in order to recover from the autoimmune disorder, which affects her thyroid.
“My doctor has prescribed … are you ready? As of today, three weeks of vacation,” she said in an emotional video. “What? Who are you? I was pissed.”

Williams spoke about her battle with Graves back in July. At the time, she discussed the issues that could result from the disorder. “The muscle pressure behind the eyes pushes them forward just a bit,”

she said, adding that her hair was also thinning. During her latest announcement, she also said that her ears were leaking due to medications.

Health concerns have impacted Williams’ career. Not only has she had to cancel shows as recently as last week, but she also collapsed during a Halloween episode of her show. She said that it was a result of being “overheated” at the time. No guest hosts will be filling in, according to CNN. Instead, the show will run reruns in her absence. “Encore performances,” Williams said. “Really? Alright. Well, our encores are better than most.” Williams also said that she will return following the break. “Three weeks,” she said. “I’ve been off for one week. I’m gonna fix that. I’ll be back in two [weeks]. I’m not an heiress. Who’s gonna pay my bills? Are you serious?”
